OpenAI just did something I didn’t think they’d pull off this early—they launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated medical AI assistant that’s actually privacy-protected and built for real healthcare conversations. Not some half-baked experiment. A real product that connects to your Apple Health, medical records, and fitness apps.
And honestly? This changes everything for wellness businesses, health coaches, and anyone in the service industry.
But that’s not even the wildest part of this week. Google turned NotebookLM into a presentation machine, Perplexity became Snapchat’s default search (yeah, read that again), and Meta finally told us exactly how to make Reels that actually convert.
This wasn’t a week of flashy launches. It was a week of AI getting operationally useful—the shift every business owner’s been waiting for.
Let me break down what matters for your business.
The Big 3 Updates That Actually Change How You Work
ChatGPT Health: OpenAI Enters Healthcare (And Does It Right)
What happened: OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health on January 7th—a completely separate, privacy-protected space inside ChatGPT specifically for health and wellness conversations. You can connect Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Peloton, Weight Watchers, and your actual medical records. All of it encrypted, none of it used to train models, completely isolated from your regular ChatGPT chats.
Why this matters for your business: If you’re a health coach, fitness trainer, nutrition consultant, or wellness educator, you now have a legitimate AI tool you can recommend to clients without legal or ethical concerns. This isn’t some gray-area chatbot—it’s purpose-built with HIPAA-level privacy thinking.
For travel businesses? You can now integrate health planning into customer experiences. Dietary restrictions, fitness routines, medication schedules—all manageable through one AI assistant your clients already trust.
How to use it: It’s included in ChatGPT Plus (₹1,650/month) and Pro (₹16,500/month). Early access is rolling out now. If you’re already a Plus subscriber, check your ChatGPT settings for “Health” in the sidebar. Connect your Apple Health or fitness apps, then start asking health-related questions. The AI will ground responses in your actual data—not generic advice.
The catch: Android support isn’t here yet (iOS and web only). India availability is expected by Q1 2026 based on OpenAI’s standard rollout patterns, but no official confirmation yet. Also, this is not a doctor replacement—it’s for understanding medical information and preparing for appointments, not diagnoses.
My take: This is the first time I’ve seen OpenAI move into a regulated industry with this level of seriousness. The privacy architecture is impressive. If you’re in wellness or coaching, this legitimizes AI in your space—use it as a positioning tool. “Our clients use ChatGPT Health to track progress between sessions” is a powerful trust signal.
Google NotebookLM: From Research Tool to Presentation Machine
What happened: Google dropped a massive NotebookLM update between January 6-10, powered by Gemini 3. The headline features: automatic flashcard and quiz generation, instant slide deck creation, infographic generation from your documents, and 4x larger context windows with 6x longer conversation memory.
Upload a PDF, Word doc, or YouTube video link—NotebookLM now turns it into a full presentation with AI-generated visuals, study materials, and infographics. All free.
Why this matters for your business: If you create educational content, training materials, or client onboarding docs, this just cut your production time by 60-70%. I’m not exaggerating.
Here’s the workflow: Upload your course curriculum or service documentation → NotebookLM generates polished slides, quizzes for knowledge checks, and visual summaries. What used to take 5-10 hours now takes 15 minutes.
For online educators, e-learning creators, and travel companies building destination guides—this is transformative. The Google Classroom integration means teachers can turn assignments into instant study notebooks.
How to use it: Go to notebooklm.google.com (free, no paywall). Create a new notebook, upload your sources (PDFs, videos, websites, Google Docs). Click “Generate presentation” or “Create flashcards.” Customize the output. Export to Google Slides or PDF.
The catch: The AI-generated visuals are functional but not jaw-dropping. You’ll still want to add brand elements and polish for client-facing work. Also, it’s best for structured content—if your source material is messy, the output will be too.
My take: This is genuinely the best free AI tool update of the week. Google isn’t charging for features that competitors would put behind a $20/month paywall. For educators and service businesses, NotebookLM just became a non-negotiable part of your content workflow.
Perplexity AI Becomes Snapchat’s Default Search Engine
What happened: Perplexity AI signed a $400M partnership deal to become Snapchat’s default AI assistant in early January. Snapchat users can now ask questions directly in their chats and get fact-based, cited answers powered by Perplexity—without leaving the app.
This is the first time a generative AI search engine has been integrated into a mainstream social platform at this scale.
Why this matters for your business: Search is moving inside social apps—and your business needs to be discoverable there.
If you’re targeting Gen Z or younger millennials (which most travel, e-commerce, and education businesses are), they’re not Googling first anymore. They’re asking Snapchat AI, “Best budget hotels in Goa” or “Online courses for digital marketing in India.”
If your business information isn’t structured, updated, and present in the places Perplexity pulls from (Google Business Profile, updated websites, social profiles), you’re invisible in this new discovery layer.
How to use it: You can’t directly optimize for Perplexity yet like you do for Google SEO. But you can do this:
- Keep your Google Business Profile obsessively updated (Perplexity pulls from Google)
- Ensure your website has clear, structured information (FAQs, service descriptions, pricing)
- Maintain active, informative social media profiles
- Get mentioned in blogs, reviews, and directories (Perplexity cites these)
The catch: This is a phased global rollout. India will get it in subsequent phases—no exact timeline yet. Also, Perplexity’s citation model means you need to be the source, not just mentioned—direct content ownership matters more than backlinks.
My take: This is bigger than people realize. Snapchat has 800M+ users. If even 10% start using Perplexity for business discovery instead of Google, that’s a massive search behavior shift. Start thinking about “Perplexity optimization” the way you think about SEO.
5 More Updates Worth Your Attention
- Meta Released a Reels Performance Playbook – Meta finally published clear guidance on optimizing Reels for brand awareness vs. direct-response ads. The direct-response guide is a goldmine: product-focused content, strong 3-second hooks, clear CTAs. The new Instagram Marketing API now shows skip rates, repost counts, and profile visits from ads—so you can actually measure what’s working. If you’re running Instagram/Facebook ads, this is your new instruction manual. [Available now globally, India full rollout by Q1 2026]
- Google Gemini Added AI Content Detection – Google is rolling out AI detection directly inside Gemini to check if videos were created or edited using Google’s AI tools. This is about trust and authenticity. For content creators and educators, this is reassuring—you can prove your content is real or clearly label what’s AI-assisted. As AI-generated content floods the internet, authenticity becomes a competitive advantage. [Free, rolling out globally]
- ElevenLabs 2026 Voice Update – ElevenLabs released a major overhaul with an ultra-realistic voice model (better breathing, emotional flow, natural pauses), improved Hindi and multilingual support, and faster rendering. If you’re creating videos, podcasts, or training content—especially for Hindi-speaking audiences—voice AI just leveled up significantly. [Included in existing Pro plans at $5/month, no price increase]
- Sora 2 Now Free for Everyone – OpenAI’s Sora 2 video generation tool is now generally available with generous free limits. ChatGPT Pro users get Sora 2 Pro access. This democratizes video creation—any SMB can now create product demos, explainers, and social content without expensive production. Disney even signed a 3-year deal allowing Sora users to generate videos with 200+ Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars characters. [Free tier available now]
- GPT-5.1 Update Brings “Light Adaptive Reasoning” – ChatGPT users received GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking models with smarter answers while staying fast, plus clearer, less jargon-heavy responses. This means better productivity without waiting for extended thinking mode. [Available now in ChatGPT]

- Sora 2 – Now free with generous limits (formerly invite-only)

My Honest Take: What I’m Actually Using This Week
Everyone’s talking about ChatGPT Health, but I’m more excited about NotebookLM for business reasons.
Here’s why: At DMS, we tested both ChatGPT Health and NotebookLM’s new presentation features this week. ChatGPT Health is impressive and will be transformative for wellness businesses—but it’s early access, limited to health use cases, and still rolling out.
NotebookLM, on the other hand, saved us 3 hours this week creating client onboarding decks and training materials. We uploaded our standard service docs and got polished presentations in minutes. The flashcard generator turned our SEO guides into client-friendly checklists.
Is it perfect? No. The visuals need brand customization. But it’s immediately useful and completely free.
ChatGPT Health is the future. NotebookLM is the present. Guess which one I’m using daily?
What’s Coming Next
Keep an eye on:
- Shopify Winter ’26 rollout (150+ AI updates including Sidekick Pulse and Agentic Storefronts throughout January-February)
- Midjourney V7 (expected February-March, no confirmed date yet)
- Runway Veo 3 (wider access expected Q1 2026)
India-Specific: DPDP Act Compliance Is Now Real
If you’re collecting customer data in India (emails, phone numbers, payment info), listen up: India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules came into effect on November 13, 2025. Full compliance obligations kick in by May 13, 2027.
Key requirements:
- Granular consent for each data use (no more blanket permissions)
- Data retention limits (no indefinite storage)
- Breach notifications within 72 hours
- If you process 20M+ Indian users’ data (e-commerce, social platforms), you’re a Significant Data Fiduciary with stricter rules
India also released AI Governance Guidelines requiring AI companies to label AI-generated content, document data sources, and avoid unlicensed copyrighted material in training.
What this means for you: If you’re using AI tools, collecting customer emails, or running e-commerce in India, compliance isn’t optional. Make sure your CRM, email tools, and data storage align with DPDP requirements. International businesses operating in India may face data localization mandates.
